Quilled Orchids!

Hello All,

Is it mid of March already! What was I doing so far! I am working on some thing exciting. Will share the details soon!

Anyhow, today's post is about the beautiful Quilled Orchid flowers. Continuing with my love of edge quilling!Drew the sketch referring to a real Orchid's stem. Yeah. I have been working on drawing skills too!
Aren't these beauties!!
Have used hand cut 5 mm paper strips for this work. so far, all my quilled works have white/shades of cream backgrounds. This time I have decided to use black background to bring out the beauty of these yellow flowers and I am glad I did. Love the way they turned out.I am still looking for a perfect frame for this work!

In the mean time, let me know how much you like them!

Cheers,

Bye bye 2018!

Hello all,

It's already the end of the year! Is it me or every one feels like time is running too fast!

Though lately there aren't many posts from me , this is a year of new things and  trails! Have tried techniques in quilling which I thought I could ever make. If you see my last two posts, you can see a sample of works I have been trying! Today's post is also one such work! This one is a spiral work using spirals made of paper. The design is inspired by the beautiful Spanish tile patterns!
The symmetry is beautiful!
Yet to practice capturing flatlays!
That's the last post for this year and see you next year with more colorful creations ☺
Oh by the way! I have decided to make at least one post per month( Let's see how I will stick to this ☺☺). You can always check my latest works in Instagram @vineetha_basana.

Happy colorful new year!

Quilled Buttercups!

Hello all,

This time I am going to show you all three dimensional quilling work, which I was talking about in my last post! 3D quilling is nothing but giving the third dimension to the otherwise two dimensional quilling works.

This year I have witnessed beautiful Spring in its glory. So many colorful flowers every where and have captured all of them to have reference for my future works. The fun part is, adding a name to those flowers with Google image search!

So today's flower is from Buttercup family and is called Lesser Celandine. They are yellow little shiny beautiful flowers. Have tried quilling these beauties with 1 mm hand cut paper strips. Did some water coloring and used  fringed and curled paper strips for the center!
Isn't it beautiful against the green background

For size reference!
The original and the quilled !
Leaves were trickier. Had to cut the shapes, bit of water coloring, scoring, drawing and some curling to get this output and I am totally happy the way they turned out!

Assembled and ready to be framed
Framed along with colored spirals on black background!
Let me know what you think of this one!

Quilled love birds!

Hello All,

Oh god. I can't believe it's been almost six months I have posted something here! My bad. Almost neglected my blog. I should blame it on my new Instagram account (you can check out all my latest works @vineetha_basana) ;-)

Though I haven't posted here, I have been busy with quilling all along. I am trying new things like edge quilling, 3 dimensional quilling. Sounds exciting right! Of course learning and improving my skills is too exciting and in love with the process.

For today's post, it's going to be my first trail with edge quilling. I am a big fan of Cecelia's edge quilling works and after stalking her blog for some years(Yup. A honest stalker ☺), I finally decided to give edge quilling a try. So without much talking , here it is. My first ever edge quilling project!

My favorite is the yellow one and your's?
Did the title trick you☺. Yes, they are owls and love birds too ☺ Aren't those lovely! I have used hand cut strips of 5 mm for this work. Yes, I have started cutting my own quilling strips. I must say they are much better than store bought pre-cut strips! You have the flexibility with Colors and width of the strip.
Red hearts!
Love birds taking center stage in my home decor!
That's it for now. See you next time. Well, this time it's not going be another six months!

Don't forget to leave your comments!

Quilled Name plate!

Hello all,

Today's post is about a name plate I have made to gift my dear uncle! When you started making handmade gifts, you don't feel comfortable buying gifts from a store. You jump right in to the opportunity to make a personalized gift to your dear ones. This is what happened when my uncle retired from work and I wanted to give him a quilled name plate with his family name!

This is an attempt of quilled typography. Loved the way how it turned out!! Have used 5 mm and 3 mm strips to work on this.

So colorful!!
Weekend is almost here. Have a great weekend!! Looking forward to your comments!
